The innovative face of temporary storage: Hursan Lojistik

Hursan Lojistik, which provides temporary storage in open and covered customs areas at Ambarlı Port, a strategic hub in Turkey's growing container traffic, handled 1 in every 110 containers passing through the port in its first year. Stressing that rational solutions and planned investments have brought steady growth, Hursan Lojistik General Manager Kenan Kum says the company aims to become a logistics base through transit cargo agreements.

The youngest member of the Hursan Group, specialised in fast and effective port services, Hursan Lojistik continues to be a solution partner for its customers in the temporary storage area attached to Ambarlı Customs. Founded in 2009 and noted for its rapid rise, the company stores goods arriving from abroad as FCL and LCL containers during customs clearance and prepares and ships transit-trade goods according to customer requests. With terminals comprising 12,000 m² of open space, 3,400 m² of covered warehouse and a 1,000 m² shed, Kum says they deliver rational bonded-warehouse and customs solutions: "The foundations of quality at Hursan Lojistik, which unloads 25 to 30 TEU a day at its terminal and holds ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certificates, are a customer-focused approach, inclusive participation and continuous improvement that respects nature and people."

Although they had only completed their second year in the sector, Kum notes that they set high targets and handled 1 in every 110 containers arriving at Ambarlı Port in 2010. In the same year, owned equipment replaced rented machinery; while renewing their offices and storage services, they built a 1,000 m² shed for cargo from new customer agreements. Kum adds that they opened new upper warehouses in March 2010, focused on part-container storage from October and targeted 15% growth in their customer portfolio in 2011. "We aim to turn Hursan Lojistik into a logistics base with new transit cargo agreements," he says.

Low error rates through strong technology

Kum points out that the flexibility of software developed by experienced IT companies lets Hursan Lojistik respond quickly to changing customer needs, and that standardising knowledge gained across sectors allows them to deliver top-quality service under all conditions. Automation technologies in the warehouses keep the error rate to a minimum, and portal applications give customers real-time information.

The company also performs customs and transfer operations for containers moved from the ports to the terminal. "Hursan Lojistik provides fast service in field operations with 2 warehouse officers, 3 tally clerks and 27 workers for container unloading; terminal and warehouse security is provided by a security company and the facility is monitored by 75 cameras," Kum states. He adds that, thanks to software developed by Boran Yazılım, the company will soon start sharing all entry and exit information for cargo arriving at the terminal with its customers, and that cargo unloaded from containers will be taken into the warehouse with a barcode system.
